Barbara Perkins Maxwell of Alexandria, Louisiana died on March 26, 2013.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, she was a graduate of Kentucky Home School (now Kentucky Country Day School), attended Sweet Briar College, Sweet Briar, Virginia, and graduated from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Phi Sigma Iota Honor Society.

She was a Sustaining Member of the Junior League of Alexandria which she had served as president. She received the Junior League of Alexandria Sustainer of the Year Award.

She served as president of the Rapides Parish Medical Society Auxiliary and as Eighth District Counselor of the Louisiana State Medical Auxiliary. She was a member of the founding board of Alexandria Country Day School which she served as secretary. She also was president of the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Club and of the Four Seasons Garden Club; a member of the Town and Country Gardeners; and a board member of the Central Louisiana Art Association, United Fund, and the Rapides Symphony Guild.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. John B. Maxwell of Alexandria, three daughters, Barbara Maxwell Meachin of New York City, Anne Maxwell Stage and Marian Maxwell Beaumont, both of Marietta, Georgia, and five grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank her caregivers for their kindness and compassion during her last years.

Services will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013 in the chapel of John Kramer & Son, with Rev. Jack Sawyer officiating. Interment will be held in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until time of service on Saturday.
