Mr. Gary Wayne Matassa Whittington

Funeral Services for Gary Wayne Whittington will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013 in the chapel of John Kramer & Son, with Rev. Shawn Waggoner and Rev. Chuck Stevenson officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Ball, under the direction of John Kramer & Son.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2013 and again from 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013 until time of service at John Kramer & Son.
Gary, age 56 of Alexandria/Colfax, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013 in Rapides Regional Medical Center.
He is preceded in death by his step-father Joe P. Matassa; and father, Earl Lee Whittington.
Gary served in the United States Army from 1977 to 1980 and was stationed in Germany serving in communications. He was an avid squirrel hunter and loved hunting with his Uncle Bill. Gary also loved fishing with friend, Doc Connella. He also loved being with his nieces, nephews, and family. It was always a joy for him. He was very proud of his new home on the lake.
He is survived by his mother, Kathleen Hilton Newman and step-father, Jack Newman of Alexandria; sister, Judy Matassa Squyres (Danny) of Alexandria; two brothers Gene Matassa (Joan) of Baton Rouge and Vincent J. Matassa (Sue) of California.
Pallbearers honored to serve include: Charles McHenry, Bill Hilton, Danny Squyres, Barry Robinson, Charlie Vyoral, and Jerry McHenry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sherriff William Earl Hilton, Henry A. Hilton, Michael Hilton, Rich Wheeler, Louis Kepperling, and Joey Kepperling.
