George A. Miller well-known purveyor of flowers and former owner of Miller's Flower Shop of Colfax, LA, passed Tuesday March 5, 2013. Friends will be received this Friday, March 8, 2013, from 4pm-7pm at the Kramer of Colfax Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. Friday until the time of the service at the church. Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM Saturday March 9, 2013 at Colfax United Methodist Church, Main Street, Colfax. Full Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army.

Miller is preceded in death by parents George and Phoebe Miller, sisters Catherine Wray, Isabel Griswald, Mae Kyttle, brothers Stanley, Lewis and Glenn Miller.

Surviving are wife Thelma, brother Ronald (Emily) Miller of Danville, PA, sister Anna Jean Miller of Bloomsburg, PA, sisters-in-law Mae Rose Miller and Nancy Miller, son Jon Patterson, step-sons Kelton Scholl (Vicki) of N. Versailles, PA, Karol "Chuck" Scholl of Sayreville, NJ, Kim Scholl (Joann) of Alexis, NC, step-daughter Patti Thor (Jim) of State College, PA, thirteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

George Miller was born and raised in Danville, PA. George joined the Army in June 1946 and served in Korea during the war and four additional tours during peace time. He also served two tours in Vietnam, one in France, two in Germany, and one in Panama. He had service in Okinawa, the Philippines and Beirut, Lebanon. He served in approximately 24 installations in the States. His most memorable assignment was at Cape Canaveral during the Freedom and Liberty shots with Glenn and Shephard. Miller retired after 30 years service.

George was known for his kindness and was generous with his time and his stories. In addition to delivering flowers, George always delivered sincere compliments. Some customers would even order flowers for themselves just to be treated so nicely.

His grandchildren would sit for hours to hear his stories of his antics as a child and how to catch a monkey using a coconut, a piece of string and a shiny object.

Miller was an avid Civil War buff. He loved to keep an immaculate yard and won Yard of the Month multiple times.

In 2000, George married his high school sweetheart Thelma Metzger Walukas.

Miller, long-time resident of Colfax, will be greatly missed.
