Joseph "Joe" James Mulea, 91, of Alexandria, passed away March 06, 2013 at Grace Home. Visitation will be held on March 8, from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm at John Kramer & Son. The Rosary will be offered at 5:30pm. A funeral Mass will begin at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 9 at St. Francis Cabrini Church with Reverend Chris Nayak officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park, Pineville.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Alex C. Mule', Mary Cicero Mule'; two brothers, Jasper Mule' and Vincent Mule' and three sisters, Mary Mule', Angie Mule', and Catherine Carlino; and a son, John Edward Mulea.

Joe was born and raised in Moreland, Louisiana. His family moved to Alexandria in 1937. Joe served his country on board the U.S.S. Brunswick on convoy duty in the North Atlantic. He was a member of the American Legion and St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Joe was a bookkeeper, printer, homebuilder and real estate broker. As a printer he was a skilled linotype operator. The linotype machine allowed the printer to assemble full lines of type to create slugs of lead known as "hot metal" typesetting. The lines were then racked in a set to create a page of type. As a homebuilder, Joe built over 150 homes in the Alexandria area before his retirement in 1980. Along with his wife Dorothy, he provided well for his family creating a loving environment and instilled many important values including a strong work ethic.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Gauthier Mulea, retired RN, of Alexandria; two children, Alex and wife Monica of Alexandria, and Ann Mulea John and husband Robert of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Jason A. Mulea of Alexandria, Jessica A. Mulea of Alexandria, Robert Lewis John III of New Orleans, Michelle A. John of Savannah, and Joseph J. John of Lafayette; and two great grandchildren, Taylor Alexis Mulea and Vincent Dane Mulea of Alexandria.

Pallbearers will be Alex Mulea, Jason Mulea, Robert John Jr, Robert Lewis John III, Joseph J. John, and Pepe Rizzo. Honorary Pallbearer: Joe Rino.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Grace Home for their compassionate care of Joe.
