Mary "Bootsie" Brown
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary "Bootsie" Brown will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Tioga with Rev. Rickey Gremillion officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park under the direction of John Kramer & Son.
Friends are asked to call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at John Kramer & Son. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Mary "Bootsie" Brown, age 76, of Tioga, passed away March 9, 2013, in Tioga Manor.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leon Joseph Medica and Rose Giordano Medica.
Bootsie graduated from St. Mary's Dominican College with a degree in Physical Education. She retired after thirty years from the Rapides Parish School Board. She taught at the following schools: Tioga High School, Tioga Baptist Academy and Mary Goff Elementary.
She was involved in numerous activities throughout the community including: Maryhill Girls Youth Camp, Kehoe Day Camp, Ward 10 Youth Softball, and Louisiana College Swimming and Aquatics.
Some of the awards received for her kind acts of service for the community included: Central Louisiana Top 10 Women of the Century (October 1999), dedicated the Mary Goff Walking Trail (April 2004) and Pioneer Inductee for the Dixie Softball Inc. Hall of Fame (2002).
She was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Bootsie also was a member of the Tioga Alumni Association and Tioga Historical Association.
Those left to cherish her memory include: one son Paul Brown of Tioga, one daughter Stacy Brown Wolf and husband Michael of Brandon, Mississippi, one granddaughter Mary Rose Wolf, one grandson Owen Wolf, one brother Leon Medica of Hendersonville, Tennessee, one sister Leona Medica Mandina of Shreveport, LA and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
