Rowena DeLoach

  • DIED: March 5, 2013
  • LOCATION: River Ridge, Louisiana

Rowena DeLoach left on her final trip on Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

Throughout her life she loved travel and learning, instilling these same loves in her children. She was always planning her next trip. A believer in higher education, she took pride in knowing her children and grandchildren all completed college. But she also knew that learning didn't end there. If you went on a trip with her, you were going to see or do something educational. One of her greatest attributes was her "can do" spirit. She was a leader, fearless and willing to try anything. Lead a Scout troop. Fix a leaking faucet or clean out a gutter. Teach you how to swim, roller skate and ride a bike. Reign as the first Mustard Green Queen. Another was her willingness to help anyone in need. Behind what some saw as a stern exterior lay a tender heart. She was the one whose practical advice people sought. Need a recipe? She had it. Altering a garment? She could do it. Directions some place? She knew all the routes.

Rowena was born on November 7, 1929 to Chester W. and Zoemie Harris O'Quin in Alexandria, Louisiana.

Since 1955 she has resided in River Ridge where she led an active life, filled with a variety of interests. For over 50 years she was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and the Little Farms VFC Club. More recently, she joined the Little Farms Golden Agers. She bowled every Thursday morning in a league at the Colonial Lanes in Harahan.

Rowena goes to join the love of her life, her husband, Zeland M. "Junior" DeLoach.

She leaves behind her children: Z. David and Sharon DeLoach of St. Francisville, Elaine and Steve Graalmann of Alexandria, and Frances and Tony DiFranco of Metairie; her grandchildren: Zeland, Trenton, Elissa and Eric; two sisters: Beverly O'Quin of Alexandria and Frances Anderson of Pineville; three sisters-in-law: Jewel Hotard, Hazel DeLoach and Mary Jo O'Quin; and her life-long friends: Billie Alice Ryland, Lou Mouton, Anne Rosenberger, Jackie Myrick and Trudy Aucoin.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Rosary Service at the Kenner Funeral Home of L. A. Muhleisen and Son, 2607 Williams Blvd. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 6:00 P.M. with Visitation beginning at 4:00 P.M. A Prayer Service will be held at the Kramer Funeral Home, 2905 Masonic Dr., Alexandria, Louisiana on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. with Visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M. Interment following at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Pineville, Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1908 Short St., Kenner, LA 70062 or the Little Farms Golden Agers c/o JPRD, 6921 Saints Dr., Metairie, LA 70003. To view and sign the online guest book, please visit www.muhleisen.com
