Services for Walter David Floyd will be held at 11 a.m Friday, April 26, 2013 in the chapel of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home in Alexandria, with Dr. Henry C Blount Jr. officiating. Entombment will be in Green Oaks Mausoleum in Baton Rouge, LA., with Rev. T.W. Terrell officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
Walter David Floyd, age 85, of Alexandria passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in Grace Home, in Alexandria.

He was born in Deville, LA on August 4, 1927 to Samuel David and Della Addie Floyd. He attended Pineville Elementary and Bolton High School.

After high school he worked as a mechanic for Southern Chevrolet until he joined the Merchant Marines. After his discharge from the marines he found his calling as a "super" salesman. He began selling Kirby Vacuum cleaners door to door. His territory included Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. He met his late wife "Choc" Charliree Brown in San Antonio, TX, while demonstrating a Kirby Vacuum cleaner. They had one son, David Wayne, now deceased.

He later was offered a job with the Scott Fence Company in Baton Rouge, and later bought the company, renaming it Floyd and Son Fence Company. He expanded the business to include installing fences, carports, insulation and home construction. He remained in business in Baton Rouge for many years.

In addition to his parents, wife, and son he was preceded in death by two brothers: Claiborne L (Clabe) Floyd and Marcus Hayden Floyd. He is survived by one brother, Ferrell H Floyd, 8 nieces and nephews: Carolyn Floyd, Janice Beal, Larry Floyd, Claudia Jones, C.L. Floyd, Jr., Donnie Floyd, Terry Floyd and Pam Richerson.

Honorary pallbearers will be: C.L. Floyd Jr., Paul Jones, Larry Floyd, Donnie Floyd, Terry Floyd, Gary Richerson, Milton Howard, Christina Clark, Debra Bryant, Edward Collins, and Colliece Whetzel.
